New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Jamal Bryant Urges Black People to Remain Sheltered in Place Despite Georgia Gov. Kemp Opening Businesses on FRIDAY!

Hello World,

My state has been in the national news over the past couple of days and not for a good reason. On Monday, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced that on Friday, the shelter in place mandate will be relaxed to allow some businesses such as nail salons, barbershops, tattoo parlors, bowling alleys etc. to open. (How does one practice social distancing at any of these establishments, pray tell?)As there has been discussion about whether Georgia has hit its peak regarding the spread of COVID-19 and the fact that COVID-19 has been disproportionately affecting black people, Pastor Jamal Bryant is calling the governor out and urging black people to remain sheltered in place. He entitled his commentary “Georgia opening the state…..opening caskets!” Below is all he had to say:

Additionally, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was not aware that Gov. Kemp was going to make such an announcement. See her statement below:

Dr. Bernice King, who is on the state’s COVID-19 task force, also did not know that Gov. Kemp was relaxing the state’s restrictions beforehand. Below is what she had to say:

I truly understand that businesses are in economic dire straits right now but at the same time, you don’t want your final hair appointment to be at the mortuary. Keep Praying Saints! Discernment Is Needed…

Pastor Jamal Bryant & New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Postpones COVID-19 Testing Event Previously Scheduled for Today…

Hello World,

In this Coronavirus Crisis, we are learning to be flexible, if anything, particularly when it comes to previously scheduled events. According to the AJC, “the Stonecrest megachurch said New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Texas-based RoweDocs  planned to provide drive-thru coronavirus testing for 1,000 people this weekend on the church’s Stonecrest campus. The testing was planned to be split evenly over Saturday and Sunday and those tested should know the results in about 24 hours.”

Additionally, according to the AJC, “established in 2014, RoweDocs is African-American owned telemedicine company. Bryant  said there are so many people of color  living on the margins without adequate access to health services or little or no health issues, that this was the right thing to do.”

However, if you live in Georgia, you know that Gov. Brian Kemp recently issued an executive order for the state to shelter in place and so Pastor Jamal Bryant and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church have had a change of plans, according to its Facebook page. See the announcement below.

I applaud the church’s effort though. Y’all, we gotta keep praying that this Coronavirus Crisis will come to an end and soon…Have mercy on us Lord…

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Jamal Bryant Takes Daughter Grace to Daddy-Daughter Dance, Some Critique Her Dress…

Hello World,

The first time I officially danced with my father was during my wedding in 2013. It was one of the most special moments in my life because the first man I had ever loved gave me away to the man I will forever love. I don’t recall any of the schools I attended when I was growing up having a Daddy-Daughter Dance, but I hear about them all of the time now. Apparently, the school where Grace Bryant attends had a Daddy-Daughter Dance on Saturday as Bravo reported that New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Jamal Bryant took his daughter Grace to one. Grace is also the daughter of Gizzelle Bryant, who is on the cast of  The Real Housewives of Potomac.  Both of the Bryants, who are back together after being divorced for several years, posted about this special occasion on their Instagram pages. But Grace’s dress, which is somewhat short and tight and shiny, has received some critical feedback…Below are some of the comments and Pastor Bryant’s IG post…

“No Mam Grace. Come with a dress to your knees . Y’all look good but no Mam I’m old school.”

“Naw. Naw grace lookin to grown 😭”

“Tell her to get back inside and put a crinoline over that Sir 🤭😉😆”

But I must say, most of the comments were complimentary…So what do I think? Believe it or not, I started receiving attention for my backside when I was still in elementary school. As a result, as I growing up, I tried to wear clothes that weren’t too tight or too short because of the unwanted attention. That being said, that’s just me. If her parents are cool with it, then that’s that…

What say you?
