Bishop T.D. Jakes & The Potter’s House Present Easter Service to Air on BET, Sun. April 12th

Hello World,

BET announces the BET Presents: The Light, An Easter Production, a special broadcast of Easter Service in partnership with the world-renowned worship center, The Potter’s House. Premiering Sunday, April 12, at 10 AM ET/PT commercial-free on BET, the two-hour special will bring families an uplifting Easter celebration.

The Potter’s House Arts and Music Ministry, a Grammy Award-winning group, along with a special guest appearance by Tony Award-winning Broadway veteran Quentin Darrington (Once on This Island, Cats, and Memphis), will tell the story of Jesus Christ from the book of John’s perspective centered around how the light of Christ came into the world to dispel darkness. From hip-hop to presentations by children’s dance companies, to poetry and sometimes comical recitations, the Easter production, aims to bring hope and strength to a world navigating challenging times.

While Easter in quarantine may feel alienating, global spiritual leader Bishop T.D. Jakes advocates that physical distancing requirements are not just a test in how connected we are to one another, but how deeply connected we are to God. Jakes reminds us that Easter, in its beginning, did not start with a crowd, and attendance numbers should not affect the value of the moment.

“The first Easter service wasn’t crowded, and it didn’t lose its significance for the lack of a crowd. There were few people around the tomb,” said Bishop T.D. Jakes. “Celebrating Easter in our homes with our families, you can still have a memorable time together with your family around you and have a spiritual moment that’s intimate between you and the people you love.”

“Many of us around the world are leaning on our spirituality for a sense of calmness, during these times of uncertainty. As many churches are being forced to shutter their doors in response to calls for social distancing, we want to provide a way for families to still observe the valued tradition of coming together for Easter services. As an organization whose roots are anchored in the African American experience, and whose original programming has always highlighted many aspects of gospel music and the religious experience, we are delighted to bring this unique program to our viewers around the world,” said Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET.

How Some of America’s Favorite Christian Pastors Are Addressing Coronavirus aka COVID-19 & More…

Hello World,

I’m not going to church today, and I don’t feel good about it. And you already know why I’m not there. In fact, some of you are probably attending Bedside Baptist with me as social distancing has become the norm to prevent the spread of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus aka COVID-19.

As a woman of faith, I still find myself grappling with fear. The verse 2 Timothy 1:7 comes to mind. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” So on on the one hand, if God has not given me the spirit of fear, why should I fear this novel virus?  I should be in church this morning among believers because why fear. But then on the other hand, my sound mind, which was given to me by God, tells me that if our world’s greatest healthcare leaders says that we should practice social distancing and to not play with this new sickness then I should be within the confines of my home this morning. I’ve come to the conclusion that this verse should be treated as a seesaw. I don’t think I should be stifled by fear so much so that I’m in a catatonic state because the end is near, but at the same time, I shouldn’t be so cavalier that I think I’m superhuman. It’s a tenuous balance for sure, but that’s where I am today.

Since I’m no theologian, I’ve been researching what our favorite pastors have to say on this topic because I expect them to have better understanding than I do. As the Word says, not everyone should be a teacher, because there higher standards for those who do so. But below are some videos and news articles that demonstrate how pastors are responding to COVID-19.

Believe it or not, some Christian pastors have been diagnosed with coronavirus. Below are some news stories I found as I searched…

“Lubbock Pastor: I Have Tested Positive for Coronavirus” by Justin Massound

Excerpt: “I wanted to let everyone know that the COVID-19 virus has been confirmed as of today,” said Pastor Javier Castaneda. “I tested positive for the coronavirus. So I just wanted to put this out as a notice for people who I have been in contact with. The instructions are the same. Keeping an eye on your symptoms and paying close attention to them for 14 days from the time we were in contact with each other.” See more at: kfyo.com.

“Virginia Church Community Prays for Pastor With Coronavirus” by Darcy Spencer

Excerpt: Crossroads Baptist Church Pastor Kenny Baldwin has stepped down from the pulpit after testing positive for coronavirus. News4’s Darcy Spencer spoke with Baldwin’s brother about how he is recovering. See more at: nbcwashington.com.

“Atlanta Pastor Shares Coronavirus Battle” by Beth Galvin

Excerpt: Scott Armstrong’s world has suddenly become very small. The 48-year-old Lead Pastor of City Church-Eastside in Atlanta is quarantined with COVID-19. He’s in the same house, but is physically separated from his wife Kerstin and 3 daughters. See more at: fox5atlanta.com.

Yolanda DeBerry Crowned Winner of T.D. Jakes’ & Marquis Boone’s “THE GOSPEL!”

Hello World,

Six gospel artists had the chance of a lifetime to perform before Bishop T.D. Jakes and Pastor Marquis Boone on their competition reality show “The Gospel.” Yolanda DeBerry (stage name “Yoli”) was declared the winner of the competition Gospel show, and was rewarded a national management contract with T.D. Jakes’ Dexterity Sounds and Marquis Boone Music Group.

Hailing from Jamaica Queens, NY, Yoli comes from a family of musicians. She found her passion for Gospel music when she joined her church’s music ministry as a little girl. On the show, she spent 8 weeks training and developing as an artist. Ultimately, she took home the win and will be on her way to being the next big thing in Gospel music!

“Yoli is that talent that has been groomed in the shadows and comes to the for front ready. She is that talent that you waited for, that talent that allows her life experiences to fuel her gift of singing. I’m excited to work with her,” says Marquis Boone of the Marquis Boone Music Group.

“The Gospel” chronicled eight episodes as contestants competed for a national management contract with T.D. Jakes’ Dexterity Sounds and Marquis Boone Music Group. The first of its kind for Gospel music, Yoli was announced as the winner of this Christian music competition at Bishop T.D. Jakes International Pastors & Leadership Conference in Tampa Bay on April 27. The show was executive produced by T.D. Jakes and Marquis Boone and hosted by Darlene McCoy. Contestants were discovered via video recordings submitted on social media and through the Bishop’s Village platform.

Mentors, including Micah Stampley, Jekalyn Carr, Q Parker, Devyne Stephens and more, helped mold them into polished performers. Not only did the artists have the opportunity to discover their stardom, but they also experienced the hustle and drive that is necessary to rise in the entertainment industry. Each week, viewers subscribed to Bishop’s Village were able to vote and select the winner of the artists’ weekly challenge.

Bishop T.D. Jakes & Marquis Boone are excited to work with Yoli and believe the viewers made a great choice. “We are ready to get in the studio and start crafting something amazing to present to the world,” says Marquis Boone.

If you missed the series you can watch it exclusively on T.D. Jakes’ online streaming platform with behind the scene videos, messages and content. Visit bishopsvillage.com.
