Black Panther’s Letitia Wright Stars in SURROUNDED!

SURROUNDED includes one of Michael K. Williams' last roles...

Hello World,

Letitia Wright is one of my favorite stars now because of her unapologetic Christian testimony, and I try to support her in all of her entertainment endeavors. Her latest movie is SURROUNDED which is out now! See the synopsis below…

Five years after the Civil War, freedwoman and former Buffalo Soldier Moses “Mo” Washington travels west to lay claim on a gold mine- the summation of years of toil for Mo and her community. It is a mean, dangerous world for an unaccompanied Black woman in 1870 America and so Mo travels into the deep frontier disguised as a man. After her stagecoach is ambushed by a group of murderous thieves, Mo is forced to hold legendary outlaw Tommy Walsh captive while the remaining surviving passengers seek out help. What ensues is a battle of wills, blurring the line between captor and captive, as they both try to survive the harsh western landscape. Directed by Anthony Mandler and written by Andrew Pagana & Justin Thomas and Andrew Pagana, the film stars Letitia Wright, Jamie Bell, Jeffrey Donovan, with Brett Gelman and Michael K. Williams.

Premier Insight Podcaster Ruth Jackson Speaks to ‘MusicFootballFatherhood’ Founder Elliott Rae, Who Was Diagnosed With PTSD Following the Birth of His Daughter…

Hello World,

Happy Father’s Day to My Father, My Husband AND to ALL of the After the Altar Call Readers Who Are Fathers! I hope you enjoy your special day…

Unfortunately, Father’s Day tends to not get as much shine as Mother’s Day and that’s truly sad…I won’t get into potential reasons why in this blog post, but I did want to share a resource for some fathers who may be struggling with the stresses of fatherhood…Why?

  1. Men’s mental health: New dads are particularly vulnerable as financial and work pressures coupled with a huge life change can have a significant impact. (I know this firsthand as I’ve watched my husband transform from a husband to a father of twin girls.)
  2. Gender equality, gendered parenting roles and the pandemic: The coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has had a prolific impact on the way we live and work. There has been some positive progress on the collective role of dads, with fathers taking on more parenting responsibilities than ever before.  However, women still do the large majority of childcare and have paid the price in the pandemic with mothers being more likely than fathers to be furloughed and at a higher risk of job losses. As a collective we need to do more to challenge gendered parenting roles. We need to move away from the concept that caring is for women and being the main breadwinner is for men – those outdated stereotypes are damaging for everyone: men, women and children.

Unapologetic podcast host Ruth Jackson discusses the above with Elliott Rae, the founder of MusicFootballFatherhood, who was diagnosed with PTSD following the birth of his daughter. He speaks about experiencing God in the midst of suffering. He shares how becoming a father changed his life and theology. With 2023 being the the 50th anniversary of the birth of Hip Hop, I love that Chubb Rock is a guest host! I loved dancing to his music when I was in high school! If you’re unfamiliar with him, please see this bio:

Chubb Rock (Richard Simpson) is a legendary Brooklyn, New York-based hip-hop artist/radio host who released several successful Hip-Hop albums in the early 1990s. Chubb first appeared nationally with his 1988 self-titled debut “Chubb Rock.” He moved to Atlanta and had a radio show before leaving the station to start his current radio programs called “The Chubb Rock Show with SiMan Baby” and “Diggin’ In Tha Crates.”

Additionally, my friend Kiplyn Primus will be there! Kiplyn Primus hosts “The Local Take With Kiplyn Primus,” heard Saturday mornings at 7 am on Jazz WCLK 91.9. She also works with businesses and organizations interested in paid underwriting schedules on Atlanta’s Jazz Public Radio Station. Kiplyn is a graduate of Howard University and Clark Atlanta University and has a long career in public and commercial media. She is a veteran facilitator for StoryCorps’ Atlanta studio.
