How Sexy Can a Christian Wife Be?

I’m chin deep in wedding planning and sometimes I must admit it feels like I’m drowning in it (Pray for me :)) …But every now and then I’ve managed to keep up with the hot topics of the day…So last Sunday (yes, a bit late for this post I know) as I watched the BET Awards, I saw THE DRESS…It was the dress that Actress Meagan Good wore to the star-studded music celebration. For a Hollywood starlet, the dress was sexy, but no more daring than the green Versace dress that J.Lo wore to the GRAMMY Awards in 2000 or even more daring, barely there dress that Toni Braxton wore to the 2001 GRAMMY Awards….But for Ms. Good, who can be known as Mrs. Franklin, wife of Columbia Pictures Executive DeVon Franklin, who is also a minister, the dress was scandalous…And the fact that she wore the dress as she presented the gospel music artist award got many Christians worked up to a lather…

While I’m in interested in what you think about her dress, I thought the discussion about her dress brings to light another more important discussion… How sexy can a Christian wife be? Can a Christian wife even be sexy? It seems that once women (Christian or otherwise) get married, they are expected to wear mom jeans, cut their hair short and wear more mature clothing…And what about those wives and moms on talk shows that are always getting makeovers? As my wedding date gets closer, I am wondering what is appropriate clothing for a Christian wife?

‘The View’ Co-Host Sherri Shepherd and husband Lamar Sally Are Having A Baby!!!

“The View”‘s Sherri Shepherd recently announced that she and her husband Lamar Sally will be having a baby on “The Tom Joyner Morning Show,” according to Elev8. However, as Shepherd, whom I interviewed for my book “After the Altar Call: The Sisters’ Guide to Developing a Personal Relationship With God,” is 46 years old, the couple have opted to use a surrogate mother.

“We found a drama-free uterus,” Shepherd told Tom and Sybil. “We found a girl that didn’t have any drama in her life. We’re putting in our  egg and Sal’s sperm and we’ll let you know how it progresses.”

Sherri, who already has one son Jeffrey from her previous marriage, recently released her book “Plan D: How to Lose Weight and Beat Diabetes (Even If You Don’t Have It)”and new wig line LUXHAIRNOW by Sherri Shepherd will debut on QVC on June 13.

As I will be getting married this summer, I have started to think about motherhood and whether it’s a real possibility as I will be 40 years old this year…I love spending time with my niece, who is 5 years old, and my nephew, who is 12 years old, and I have worked with the youth at my church in various capacities from being a Sunday School teacher to Vacation Bible School director. But I wonder if I have what it takes to be a mother at this age. I get so sleepy sometimes, and I cannot imagine having to tend to a crying baby at night. And a friend of mine who recently had a baby told me how much she pays for a diapers! Children are expensive, and I have to save for my retirement 🙂 And then if you want to go somewhere you can’t just hop into your car and ride out. You have to consider if you can bring the baby along and if not, you have to find a sitter…And on top of all that, I will be a whopping 40 years older than my child…An old mama. So anyway, these are some of my concerns/fears as I ponder if motherhood is truly for me…I know this all sounds whiny and selfish, but just because you have a uterus doesn’t mean you are supposed to be a mother…

Bow Down to Beyonce’ or Ascend With Tavares Stephens…

Since Sunday, social media sites, blogs, radio programs and television outlets have been buzzing about a new song Beyonce’ released on her Tumblr account. “Bow Down/I Been On” is a shocking departure from Beyonce’s female empowerment anthems and beautiful ballads. In this expletive-laced song, Beyonce’ commands women to bow down to her. And she raps although her voice is unrecognizable as it distorted. She pays homage to her Houston roots by shouting out the Geto Boys and UGK as well. If all publicity is good publicity, Beyonce’ is still running the world as she stated in one of her more radio-friendly hits. But the mom force is not to be trifled with either, and many mothers have stated that Beyonce’s latest song may get her banned from their children’s playlist…

What do I think? There is a part of me that thinks that Beyonce’ should abide by the principle in Philippians 4:8″…Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” And then there is a part of me that says that artists should be free to express themselves…
