Spring Fever…

Hello World,

Today is the first day of spring! Hallelujah! It’s been a hard winter for most of the United States with all of the snow…Even the A had its fair share of snow this year! But all of that is over for 2011…At least I think so, but God is in charge…It’s time to thoroughly clean my house and get cotton candy polish painted on my toes. And it’s time to break out the happy music! So without further ado, I will post my Top 10 Songs to get me in the mood for spring! (In no particular order) And please let me know what music gets you in the mood for my second favorite season of the year! (Of course, summer is my absolute fave..how could it be any different for someone with Jamaican heritage?)

  1. “I Got A Man”  – Positive K. This flirty song gets me in the mood to get myself cute in the spring because summer is coming…And this song is one of the hip hop classics that did not need cursing & misogyny to get air play…
  2. “Happy Feelings” – Maze. This is the kind of song that makes you turn your windows down in your car and take in all of the sounds, smells & sights of spring…
  3. “You Brought The Sunshine” – The Clark Sisters. When you are getting ready for church in the spring, this is a perfect song to groove to…
  4. “Let’s Groove” – Earth, Wind & Fire. Another song to groove to in the car!
  5. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” – Nirvana. This is a great song to run to…Now that it is officially spring, I have no more excuses to get out there and pound the pavement! Hopefully, I will make it in the Peachtree Road Race since the powers that be have instituted a lottery system for the first time…
  6. “Lovely Day” – Bill Withers. This song always makes me feel better. It’s great for dancing to when you’re alone in your bedroom 🙂 And a great cool down song after an intense workout!
  7. “What a Wonderful World” – Louis Armstrong. No explanation needed. Sheer perfection!
  8. “Could You Be Loved” – Bob Marley. I just feel the sun on my back whenever I hear this song! I need to get back to Jamaica!!!
  9. “Everything is Everything” – Lauryn Hill. After winter, must come spring! YES!
  10. “Girls Just Want To Have Fun- Cyndi Lauper. A great song any time of the year, but particularly in spring when everything is coming to life again!

What’s your favorite song or songs to get you in the mood for spring?

Any thoughts?

Status Update: March 2011

Hello World!!!

I know I’ve been gone a minute, but hopefully, y’all will forgive me…I’ve been crazy busy pursuing my goals for 2011! One of my goals involves me really buckling down this month and April so please, charge it to my schedule and not my heart if my posts are not as exciting or as frequent as I would like them to be. That being said, I will still do my best — so please check me out every Sunday and Wednesday!

As the title of my post suggests, I want to know what’s up with the what’s up? It’s March so by the end of this month, we will have 75 percent of this year left! That sounds crazy when you think of it like that…But how are y’all doing on your goals or resolutions for this year?

One of my goals was to simply eat more vegetables. I know that sounds simple, but for me, it always isn’t…but I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself craving vegetables earlier this week so I had a big salad for dinner on Friday. And it was yummy too:) That doesn’t even sound like me…but it’s true…Another one of my goals is to continue to reduce my monthly bills. I’ve been able to knock down some of the charges on some of my bills, but one of my service providers wasn’t hearing it yesterday…but I’ma pray on it and call back…Hey, a different day, a different customer service rep…you know how it is…I also said I was going to experience more that the A has to offer this year…My city has hosted several awards shows and other world -class events like the Bronner Brothers International Hair Show (which I finally attended last month), and it makes no sense that I’m not in the mix…Also, one of my goals is to send more greeting cards to my friends…With e-mail, e-cards and the like, sending greeting cards through snail mail is a lost art in my opinion…and I love receiving greeting cards in snail mail, and I imagine that others do too…

I’m not sure where I heard this or read this, and I think Catherine Marshall, my favorite author, may have written it. Anyway, I think we should dream so big that only God can help you fulfill that dream. What I mentioned above are only some of the smaller goals I have for 2011, but know that I do have some big goals or dreams on my list as well. And I also know that sometimes it’s best to keep those bigger dreams to yourself as you pursue them so I won’t tell you what other bigger things I’m working on yet — but you will know sometime this year!

But if you have already encountered some sort of stumbling block this year as your pursue your goals or dreams, please listen to this inspirational Yolanda Adams song “Never Give Up.”

Saturday in the A – Featuring the Bronner Bros. International Hair Show

Hello World!

I have been living in the A since I was six years old, and in all of that time, I have never been to the infamous Bronner Bros. International Hair Show. Can you believe it? So yesterday, I decided to take in the spectacle that is the Bronner Brothers International Hair Show which was featured in Chris Rock’s HBO comedy documentary, “Good Hair.” Pictures tell the story better than I can in this case so take a look at my pics and enjoy…

Me obviously at the hair show…

I ran into these women outside the hair show…Their hairstyles are rainbow brite…

She reminds me of Halle Berry’s character in that movie “B.A.P.S.”

Guys also showed off their innovative hairstyles too…

But no guy is more fabulous than Derek J, a hairstylist featured on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and Chris Rock’s “Good Hair!” He stay showin’ his legs, huh?

Me & Jamie Foster Brown, publisher of Sister 2 Sister Magazine. She is so sweet and gracious!

Natural girls were also in the house!

 A dress made of hair…Wow…

I think she should try out for “America’s Next Top Model.”

Innovative makeup was also on display…

 More innovative makeup…

 Glitter on her eyelids…

Another outfit made entirely of hair…Yes, that is a beveling iron made of hair on her head…

I have never seen a wig head made with dreads…As it turn out, I still haven’t…The woman sitting next to this wig head told me she cut off her locks when they got very long and attached them to the wig head…Wow again…

Reppin’ for Jamaica, my fellow Jamerican told me…

A dougie dance competition at the Sophisticate’s Black Hair Styles and Care Guide booth…This girl did a split on the ground and a head stand to the delight of everyone…

Still at the dougie competition…I love that song!

A stylistdoin’ her thang…

Another stylist doin’ his thang…

This stylist was singing and dancing while styling…

Strike a pose…

Strike a pose part deux…

Yes, dude is rockin’ locks from his beard…

More big hair…

Sprayed on hair…

Bedazzled water spritz bottles…

Taking a break…

Black & White…

This sums up the fabulousness…

I hope my pics have convinced that if you haven’t been to the B&B International Hair Show, you just gotta go…
