Former Follower of Pinky Promise Founder Heather Lindsey Implies She’s a ‘False Prophet’ & Says She Owes Her Money!

As a Christian blogger, I’ve heard of Heather Lindsey, “founder of The Pinky Promise, an organization that promotes honoring God with your life &  body whether single or married,” every now and then but not enough to have closely examined her ministry. But the last time I recall hearing about her was when I mentioned her in a blog post entitled “The Top 10 Blog Posts and or Articles for Black Christian Women in September 2016.” I included an excerpt from this blog post “The Cult of Heather Lindsey: Examining the Rise of the Purity Movement & One of Its Most Magnanimous Leaders” by D. Danyelle from theunfitchristian.com. D. Danyelle did not hold back in her critique. This is what she wrote:

Make no mistake about it: the majority of Lindsey’s audience is comprised of single, Black, Christian women. Lindsey has created a ministry that teaches that women are single because God is pruning & preparing for the entrance of her mate can come in at best. At worst, her ministry teaches that singleness is as a result of being especially chosen by God for a life of solitude in preparation for His return.

The tenets of Heather Lindsey’s ministry suggests that single women must do and become enough in order to become a wife. In every instance, Lindsey has created a profitable business model by planting the idea that women aren’t “good” enough on their own. Ministry should not be in business to profit from misery. And there is nothing more miserable than creating a space that causes women to base their entire identity, worth, and esteem on their sexuality.

And many impressionable young women are buying in wholesale hook, line, and sinker.

And since D. Danyelle ended her blog post with mentioning money, let’s start with that in 2020. A whole four years later after what D. Danyelle wrote, Jaleceya Tate via YouTube claimed she is owed a refund for buying Heather Lindsey’s products in addition to criticizing her in much of the same way that D. Danyelle did. Jaleceya said she became a follower of Heather Lindsey in approximately 2013 because of her “cute kids, cute husband and cute testimony.” She subsequently attended a Pinky Promise conference, bought two of Heather Lindsey’s books and even attended Heather Lindsey’s cooking class.  She revealed that perusing Heather Lindsey’s perfect Instagram page over time caused her to feel her life, in comparison, was inferior. As a result, she began to not go her page as much.

Still, she became a part of a Pink Leaders group that you have to pay to join. But she regretted joining because she discovered that the content offered in the group was content that was also offered for free, allegedly. When she looked at her financial statements, she also realized that she had been double charged for her membership, according to her! Apparently, the membership fee was $20 a month, but she was being charged $40 a month. Additionally, she said she paid a $100 fee (that was supposed to refundable) to apply to join a Heather Lindsey mentorship program that costs $2,000.  Jaleceya has tried to get her money back, but so far, she is still owed the money, according to her.

She describes the lavish lifestyle of Heather Lindsey and her husband. It appears that she found a listing for the house the couple recently bought and it’s worth over $1 million. She points out that Heather Lindsey is holding a purse that costs approximately $2,000 in one picture, and her husband Cornelius is wearing Gucci shades that cost at least $400 in another picture. She said the couple charges for all of their ministry offerings and that they are handsomely profiting from it.  Similarly to D. Danyelle wrote, Jalecya said certain kind of women are lured into following Heather Lindsey. “I cannot tell you how many Pinky Promise sisters I’ve met that are single, lonely, depressed and sad, and they look up to Heather and it’s borderline worshiping Heather. “

Again, I don’t know much about Heather Lindsey to meaningfully comment or to know if Jaleceya’s allegations are true, but I will say this: In this age of everyone-who-has-an-Internet-connection-and-Instagram-page-can-be-a-leader, discernment is essential…

And I will end with this verse: “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”  1 John 4:1.

I’m so happy for the cast and crew of OWN’s “Greenleaf” as the show scored big  at the 51 st NAACP Image Awards which aired last night with winning the Outstanding Drama Series Award! Additionally, Lynn Whifield, who breathtakingly portrays our favorite First Lady Mae, was named Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series!,

Now, if the creators of OWN’s “Greenleaf” and the actors can get back to filming and let us know who is that A.J. doppelganger on the last episode!!!

Julia Roberts as Harriet Tubman, Judge Joe Brown Mad About ‘Harriet’ Movie & More…

Y’all, from the time Harriet Tubman lived on this earth (1820 to 1913) till now, Harriet Tubman has been shaking things up! Did y’all hear that “Harriet” movie screenwriter Gregory Allen Howard said in a recent interview that when he tried to get the movie made 26 years ago, a Hollywood executive suggested that Julia Roberts portray Harriet Tubman! Below are his exact words from the interview:

I wanted to turn Harriet Tubman’s life, which I’d studied in college, into an action-adventure movie. The climate in Hollywood, however, was very different back then. I was told how one studio head said in a meeting, “This script is fantastic. Let’s get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman.” When someone pointed out that Roberts couldn’t be Harriet, the executive responded, “It was so long ago. No one is going to know the difference.”

Isn’t that just preposterous? I love Julia Roberts. Who doesn’t? But c’mon?! That’s just crazy for many reasons…

And you know who else is crazy? Well, at least he’s crazy when it comes to this topic. Have you heard Judge Joe Brown’s comments regarding Harriet Tubman’s life being made into a movie and getting her on the $20 bill? Below is a what he said in an interview with Dr. Umar Johnson:

“…These feminists are trying to do this movie [‘Harriet’] so they can get a black woman put on a $20 bill. This movie is to soften the public up to the idea of taking a black woman who freed slaves by leading them to freedom by getting her or another one like her on the $20 bill. They can’t get a white woman, so they want a black woman. They don’t care. They just want a woman and it downs masculinity… I got a big problem if it’s on a bill before they put a black man’s face on one. I have a big problem with that because an ethnic group is determined by it’s men not it’s women. And you put a black woman on there before a black man and it’s insulting to the black race because you’re saying the men ain’t worth a d***, put a woman up there first…”

SMH…What say you?

I have my own Harriet Tubman story.

When I was a nine-year-old student at Pathway Christian School, my class dressed up as our favorite historical characters for “Character Day.” At that time in my life, I was obsessed with reading books about slaves. I think the fact that I was one of about 20 or so black kids in a school of about 200 or so white kids, I was starving for knowledge about black people.To my school’s credit, the library had a series of children’s books about slavery and important people during that time period. One of the books I read was about Harriet Tubman. I was fascinated that this woman persevered after getting knocked in the head with a weight by a slave master and was willing to sacrifice so much to usher fellow slaves to freedom.

So when it came time to choose a character to be on “Character Day,” she was my choice. My parents helped me fashion my costume including a head wrap as Harriet’s head was covered in the pictures I had seen of her and a drab brown dress as I imagined that slaves did not have access to the best and most colorful of dresses. I was so excited when a local newspaper photographer took a picture of me and another student and told us we would be in the newspaper. But when I saw the photograph, I was equally disappointed. The other girl’s character in the photo was correctly identified as Betsy Ross, but I was simply and incorrectly listed as an African woman. I’ve kept that newspaper clipping since then. I’m not even sure why. But I wish I could tell that photographer that Harriet Tubman deserved to be recognized as much as Betsy Ross did.  Not only was Harriet Tubman a hero for black people, she was a hero of the Christian faith, and I’m so proud that her story is finally being told on the big screen. Let’s just pray that she will be on the $20 bill as it was proposed in 2016. HERE’s an update on that proposal…
