#WhyIStayed…Don’t Judge Domestic Violence Survivors…

Hello World, rayjanay

As we all know, domestic violence, unfortunately, is not a new issue and has often sparked national conversation…Remember the Farah Fawcett movie “The Burning Bed?”…But with the Monday TMZ release of the video in which former Ravens running back Ray Rice punched his wife Janay (then fiancee), knocking her unconscious and to the floor of an elevator, domestic violence is once again the topic of a national conversation…as it should be…

For women like myself who, fortunately, have no experience with domestic abuse, it is hard to understand why women will marry an abusive man as Janay did AFTER the incident in the elevator and stay with an abusive husband…However, unlike in 1984, when that groundbreaking movie “The Burning Bed” was released, new platforms such as Twitter and Instagram give the opportunity for women across the nation and the world to speak about their experiences with domestic violence…

Janay spoke out yesterday about she is choosing to stay with Ray Rice on Instagram…

janay instagramAnd many women, in an effort to help people understand rather than judge, tweeted about whey they stayed using the hashtag #WhyIStayed….

Below are a few of the tweets that I read with this important hash tag…

Beverly Gooden, author of “Confessions of a Church Girl” and creator of the hashtag #WhyIStayed, spoke about why she stayed in an abusive marriage on ABC’s “Good Morning America” this morning…

And below is a video of the interview…

Gospel Singer Yolanda Adams & More To Appear on Sherri Shepherd’s Last Day on “The View!”

Hello World,

Sherri (who is holding a copy of my book) shows off her Sleek Angle wig from the front and the back…

As one of Sherri Shepherd’s biggest fans, I have to help publicize her last day on ABC’s “The View.” The show will be filmed in advance and airs on Aug. 11, according to Sherri Shepherd via her Twitter account. However, the show promises to be a show to remember as Yolanda Adams is slated to perform and Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin, New Edition, Bell Biv DeVoe and Arsenio Hall will also be in the house, according to the Yolanda Adams Morning Show!

Sherri spoke with me about how she got the courage to leave her stable job as a legal secretary in Los Angeles and launch her acting and comedy career for my book “After the Altar Call: The Sisters’ Guide to Developing a Personal Relationship With God.” One of the most inspiring statements she made in the interview was about how God has spoken to her as she had ascended in her career. She says she feels like God is saying, “Come here. Make the move. You make a move; I will make a move. I’m on the other side of this fear. Run toward it because you are running toward Me. Run toward the thing that you fear the most because the blessings are on the other side.” And of course, if you want to know what else she said, you have to read the book 🙂

And just because Sherri will no longer be on “The View,” she is obviously still in God’s view. In fact, she already has a gig lined up with more to come! According to Deadline.com, Sherri has joined the cast of “Ride Along 2” with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart! In addition, she will also be featured in Chris Rock’s dramedy “Top Five” which is about a New York City comedian-turned-movie star, which will be shown at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. So let’s keep checking for Sherri!

Beyonce’ Bit the Bible…

Hello World,

Right now I’m working on the revision of my first novel which I’m attempting to complete by October so pray for me please…But I did want to post a quick entry on the blog today…

Recently, megastar Beyonce’ was named number 1 on the Forbes Celebrity 100 List because “Queen B played 95 shows, bringing in an average $2.4 million per stop, according to Pollstar. She also dropped her most innovative album. Titled simply Beyoncé, the album hit iTunes with barely any publicity and was billed as a “visual album” because there was already a music video for each of the 14 songs.  The single “Drunk in Love” has gone platinum, selling more than 1 million copies.”

But King S, as in King Solomon in the Bible, proclaimed that “there is nothing new under the sun.” And he has the words to back it up…Check out Proverbs 5:15-20 ERV.

bible versesIn verse 19, Solomon uses the term “drunk on her love.” Hmmm…Maybe Bey browsed through the Bible for inspiration for her song “Drunk in Love” which is about the intoxicating love between her and husband…But I ain’t mad…The definition of inspiration is “a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation” according to the Merriam Webster dictionary. Nothing is more inspired than the Bible…

And I’m hoping AND praying that I continue to be inspired as write this novel…I see you Bey 🙂

P.S. Thanks for a FB friend for inspiring this post 🙂
