It’s a good time to be a little black girl…not that it wasn’t in the ’80s when I was a preadolescent. But between the start of MTV and the popularity of shows like “The Dukes of Hazzard,” a little black girl couldn’t get a break…I mean back then, you might be able to catch New Edition on TV or even our friends from across the pond, Musical Youth (Remember them?) Oh yeah, there was at least one little black girl on TV – Tootie from “The Facts of Life” but her shine wasn’t like Blair, arguably the main character of the show…but now little black girl power is front and center…shout to Willow Smith…
And if your parents don’t let you watch music videos yet, you can always check out “Sesame Street.” Kudos to them for “keepin’ it one hunnud.” (Is that slang still apropos? now that I’m nearing my late ’30s, my slang knowledge could be slippin’.)

Lovin miss Willow Smith as she whips her hair back & forth. Big ups to Jada for creating self esteem in a young child that we all could teach other young girls. We don’t have to have hair like whatever “it” white girl. But we can rock what we have. Your slang is correct. In fact, my cousin’s FB name is Keepitonehunned.
Yes, Will & Smith have done an excellent job with Little Miss Willow..hopefully, she will continue to “rock on” and be a healthy example of self-esteem and creativity!
I was shocked to see this a few days back but I really appreciate what Jada and Will have done for Willow and Jayden. They are very involved with their kids’ endeavors and allow them to be creative and theirselves with oversight. Hopefully, this can be the turning point for our youth. Hey Jackie 🙂

My granddaughter and her friend were sining Willow’s song all afternoon yesterday. It’s a cute song, but I can tell I’ll be sick of hearing it very soon …

I LOVE the Muppet skit – what a great way to encourage young girls to love themselves! You write about relationships a lot and I think Will and Jada are the ultimate example of love/relationships being about so much more than the two people involved – but about family, success, setting an example and paving the way for others. Great post!
