Hello World,
First of all, I’m filing this blog post in my personal file “Dreams Come True.”…So Friday, July 15 was a run-of-the-mill Friday until about 1:30 p.m. when I got a FB message from fellow journalist Christopher Daniel inviting me to a private media reception held at iwi fresh Garden Day Spa in downtown Atlanta for Sheila E.!!! I didn’t have any plans, but even if I did, I would have had to cancel them because it was truly a lifelong dream come true!!! When I was little girl, she was one of the women that I looked up too because not only was she pretty, she was excelling in a field that was typically dominated by men. A girl drummer will always be way cool!!! She was and is what people refer to now as a boss chick!!! And the fact that she collaborated with Prince, another one of my favorite artists (The ARTIST), made her unstoppable to me….This is how she looked when I first became a fan…#TotalGirlCrush
When I saw her in person, she was everything that I imagined, still pretty, confident and candid. She shared her feelings about the untimely death of her friend Prince on April 21, her love for Atlanta (If you did not know, Prince’s last concert was here at the Fox Theatre on April 14.), how she became a drummer, her musical family, being raped at 5 years old and her personal relationship with God. If you want to know more about her story, please read her memoir “The Beat of My Own Drum.”
